Bioanalysis

Bioanalysis

Bioanalysis involves analyzing xenobiotics and biotics in biological matrices; and extends to the discovery, measurement and qualification of biomarkers.

For the pharmaceutical industry, bioanalysis is needed to provide a complete picture of the pharmacokinetic properties of a drug and to relate exposure levels to pharmacological and toxicological responses. Typically, biological matrices e.g. human and laboratory control animal fluids and tissues, are used to construct calibration curves and generate blank samples (i.e. matrix with "no drug"). The sensitivity of an analytical method such as LCMS should be checked with each matrix, as well as the stability of the chemical within the matrix over time.
